Meet the Angelus Chronographe Medical x Massena LAB Limited Edition

If you don’t love Angelus watches have you even got a pulse? Don’t worry, we can check it with the new Angelus Chronographe Medical x Massena Lab Doctor’s Orders watch. As an authorised dealer of genuine Angelus watches, Jura Watches is excited to announce a new watch designed by the Swiss watchmaker and collaborative watch brand, Massena LAB. The limited-to-99-piece Angelus Chronographe Medical x Massena LAB Doctor’s Order watch is part of Angelus’ new La Fabrique watch collection – a series of limited edition watches commemorating iconic Angelus watches of the past.

You can’t scroll the internet in search of watches for too long without coming across the name Massena LAB. The company was established as a way to house Massena’s collaborative efforts with existing watch brands. Some of these include Unimatic and Louis Erard, as well as William Massena’s own timepieces inspired by vintage models. Massena LAB plays a very interesting role within the luxury watch sector, having worked alongside some of the industry’s leading watchmakers of all time. This latest collaboration marks a special uniting of Massena LAB with Angelus. The famed manufacturer of the Chronodato is revisiting a special timepiece from its past to mark this collaboration with its new La Fabrique series.

The idea of the La Fabrique watch collection by Angelus is that it will hold several limited edition models that pay homage to important historical models. The Chronographe Medical watch is limited to just 99 pieces worldwide and combines the brand’s horological finesse with its highly functional chronograph design – this time developed for specific professional use, just like the original. Massena LAB cuts the ribbon on the new collection with this stunning Doctors Order watch – a chronograph equipped with a pulsometer and an asthmometer.

The dual scale “Doctor’s Watch”

The new Angelus chronograph watch pays homage to the brand’s 1960s “Doctor’s Watch” – a hand-wound chronograph with a dual scale that could read a patient’s vital signs. This dual scale features an asthmometer to record respiratory rate and a pulsometer to measure pulse. During the 1950s and 1960s, functional chronographs designed for specific professional roles were a very in-demand thing indeed. Brands competing against one another were racing to pitch their latest innovation, sparking a trend that has now been brought up to date with the new Angelus Chonographe Medical x Massena LAB Doctor’s Orders watch.

William Massena explains a little more about this special new release; “When talking to Bertrand Savary (President of the brand), we discussed Angelus’ spectacular heritage. We hit on the idea of creating a capsule collection that would revive one of the most perfect tool chronographs of the 1960s”.

The key features of the new Angelus Chronographe Medical x Massena LAB Doctor’s Order watch

Naturally befitting for a doctor, the case of the new Angelus Chronographe Medical x Massena LAB Doctor’s Orders watch measures a diameter of 39mm. This slightly larger case compared to the former 1960s model is also crafted from surgical 316L stainless steel and is topped with a much sturdier sapphire crystal glass front with scratch-resistant and anti-reflective properties. Inside the case of the new collaborative “doctor’s watch” is the hand-wound Calibre A5000. Comprising a total of 23 jewels, it operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides a 42-hour power reserve once fully wound by hand each day. It also puts a palladium-finished and circular-grained mainplate on display through a flat sapphire-backed case, as well as Cotes de Geneve-decorated and chamfered wheels with 2N golden screws.

The doctor-friendly features of the Angelus Chronographe Medical x Massena LAB watch

The new Angelus Chronographe Medical limited edition watch features a silver opaline dial with a pulsometer scale positioned between 1 and 3 o’clock. This allows you as the wearer to measure a patient’s heart rate without needing to carry out any calculations. The scale is based on 10 beats, so all you need to do is activate the chronograph and count 10 beats then stop the chronograph hand to allow it to indicate the number of beats per minute . The asthmometer can be used by activating the chronograph and counting five breaths before stopping the chronograph hand, enabling it to indicate the number of breaths against the inner scale, graduated from 40 to 10.

The dial of the new Angelus Chronographe Medical x Massena LAB Doctor’s Orders watch is unrivalled in the fact that the pulsometer is represented in green, black and red colours. Showing against these readings is the respiratory scale in red. The “Base 10 Pulsations” and “Base 5 Respirations” is clearly marked on the dial, accompanied by uniquely pointing arrows. Remaining true to the original “doctor’s watch” are the luminous-filled dauphine-shaped hands and lines that feature on this unusual dial. Due to the layout of the dial, the silver-coloured Arabic numeral hour track is pushed further in towards the centre of the display. Despite this, the dial remains incredibly easy to read. The small seconds are displayed at 9 o’clock in a sub-counter, whilst the central chronograph hand measures 60 seconds.

A beautiful golden brown coloured full-grain calfskin Novonappa® strap completes the look of the new Angelus Chronographe Medical x Massena LAB Doctor’s Orders watch. The strap is finished with ecru stitching and secures with a stainless steel pin buckle.
